Prepared for the War-Part 2
Wielding our Sword
March 02, 2016

The second weapon I choose to discuss for our preparedness in this spiritual war is our sword.

Ephesians 6:17 – And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God…

Our spiritual sword is “the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God”.

Hebrews 4:12 – For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

Isaiah 49:2 – And He has made My mouth like a sharp sword; In the shadow of His hand He has hidden Me, And made Me a polished shaft; In His quiver He has hidden Me.”

Genesis 3:22-24 – Then the Lord God said, “Behold, the man has become like one of Us, to know good and evil. And now, lest he put out his hand and take also of the tree of life, and eat, and live forever”— 23 therefore the Lord God sent him out of the garden of Eden to till the ground from which he was taken. 24 So He drove out the man; and He placed cherubim at the east of the garden of Eden, and a flaming sword which turned every way, to guard the way to the tree of life.

The sword of the Spirit, our spiritual sword, the Word of God is our most powerful weapon. It shows us where we are weak and it gives us strength in our weakness. It guards the Way to the Tree of Life which is Jesus Christ (John 14:6). Our sword is our Lord Jesus Christ. He is the Word of God (John 1:1; Revelation 19:13).

The parts of our being that come against our Lord can be washed clean by the Word of God. The parts of our being that are already of the Lord can be strengthened by the Word of God. There is no substitute for our Lord Jesus in our lives. He is our defender and our Mediator to our God who is the Judge. He does not condemn us but He does let us know the areas of our being that hold us back from going deeper in relationship with Him by Holy Spirit. If we allow Him, He is the one who changes those areas to help us grow. This change comes by learning and coming into an understanding of the word. Understanding who our Lord is and who we are in Him is our most powerful weapon against our true enemy.

Proverbs 9:10 – “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, And the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.

Philippians 4:11-13 – Not that I speak in regard to need, for I have learned in whatever state I am, to be content: 12 I know how to be abased, and I know how to abound. Everywhere and in all things I have learned both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need. 13 I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.

The more we know and understand who Jesus is in, for, and through us, the sharper our sword is. The sharper our sword is the less effort we have to use to have it work effectively against the enemy. The less effort we have to use the more strength we have to help each other, especially those lost in the wilderness. There are some things to keep in our minds as we gain the understanding of our weapons of warfare and begin to use them effectively by the authority of Jesus Christ given through Holy Spirit:

Luke 10:20 – Nevertheless do not rejoice in this, that the spirits are subject to you, but rather rejoice because your names are written in heaven.”

2 Corinthians 12:9a – And He said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.”

Ephesians 6:12 – For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.
