For today’s “Move the Mountain Monday” I want to talk about pushing through our obstacles. No matter what is going on in our life, there are always obstacles in the way of us becoming our best. These hindrances have only purpose, to rob us of our joy. We have to push through.
When I first became a believer in the Lord Jesus Christ, there would always be advice given or words spoken but without the “how” of getting it done. Here is one “how” to push through any obstacle you may be facing. We have to understand where our mind is; what is constant in our thoughts. Our thoughts have a way of dictating our lives. If we pay attention to where our thoughts go after a negative (or positive) incident we will also notice that our behaviors follow our thought pattern. It is important to stop the process before it manifests in our lives.
2 Corinthians 10:4-6 – For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds, 5 casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ, 6 and being ready to punish all disobedience when your obedience is fulfilled.
These verses give us a direct command of what to do and why to do it. A stronghold is anything that is in our life that not only goes against God but also blocks us from His best for us. It says it in the word; strong hold. Whatever it is has a strong hold on us. Here are some synonyms for the word hold:
dominance, influence, grasp, cling, carry, grip, ownership, control, embrace, hug, captivate, engage, consume, clench, authority
When we look at those synonyms it makes it more clear as to what a stronghold really is. It is anything that has control over us not allowing us to walk in the freedom we are destined to walk in. It always begins in our thoughts. We are called to bring these thoughts into captivity. This means call them out as they are and demand them (our whole mind) to come into the obedience of Jesus Christ. What does that mean? I will give you one example from my personal life. One of my biggest strongholds that I often have to deal with (it is less and less as I come to understand who the Lord is and who I am in Him by His word and Holy Spirit) is feeling unworthy.
All my life I have had people that have always talked about me in negative ways, made fun of me for one reason or another, or think they know what is best for my life. This still happens to this day. I’m not talking about strangers but people close to me. It has affected everything about my life in my adolescent and younger adult years. I became angry and bitter at all people and my behaviors started to manifest the coldness and hardness that was covering my kind, sensitive, caring heart. As I came to know the Lord there was a lot of healing that came to where I realized these people had and have hurts themselves and being negative about others is how they deal with those hurts. I can choose to not be that way.
I still find my confidence waivering whenever I here someone (even strangers) laughing while pointing in my vicinity. I take my thoughts into captivity and tell myself that these people are not focusing on me because they don’t know me. Even if they are it has nothing to do with me but their own insecurities in life. Sometimes it may take me awhile but as I release those that actually are talking about me in a negative way I come to a place of forgiveness of them but also of myself and repentance for ever believing the enemy’s lies in the first place. This is just one example of bringing our thoughts and imaginations into the captivity of the obedience of Christ. I know I am loved by God and He made me in His image. The enemy would love nothing more than to have us believe the lie that we are nothing and that God doesn’t love us. We just have to continually remind ourselves of what God says and denounce any lie the enemy is trying to get us to believe.
As we overcome all the many obstacles in our lives we regain our true identity of being kings (queens) and priests of the Heavenly Kingdom. Say to the mountain in utter faith, “Move”, and it will move.
Have a confident and blessed week. When we know exactly who we are in Christ there is nothing that can stop us. This is the new revolution!! ARS
