When You Run to the Fire (You’re Gonna Get Burned)
The title of this piece has two meanings. When you run to the fire of God, you will be consumed by the Holy Spirit. When you run to the fire that can bring destruction, you will be consumed by all things of the enemy. It is the latter I wish to discuss.
A few days ago, I had a dream. This dream came as a warning to me because things I have seen on my social media have me tied in knots. These things I am seeing are people (mainly self-proclaimed Christians of all backgrounds) writing things without understanding that what they are posting contradicts other things they post (mainly supporting one type of person politically and defending them with Biblical verses but not doing the same for another type of person politically).
The dream came because my flesh wants to “put them [both sides] in their place”. My submission to our Lord stops me from doing that because it would not be edifying at all. In the dream, I was driving. There was a set destination that I was to go to. I knew the way because I was following the GPS in my dream. Slightly past the turn I was supposed to take, there was a huge tire fire. The air smelled of burned rubber and the atmosphere was thick with smoke. Instead of taking the turn I was supposed to take, I continued going straight to witness this disaster that was happening. As soon as I ignored the turn I was supposed to take, an individual appeared in the car with me but was sitting in the driver’s seat with me and was blocking my view. This individual represents someone close to me but who always tries to tell me what I am doing wrong without having the same core values as me. Again, they were blocking my view so I couldn’t see where I was going. The more I tried to see the fire, the more this person was in my face. The individual was so much in my face that I couldn’t see the road or my GPS to get back on the right path.
The moral from the dream is when you know where you are supposed to go, go there without taking any detours. Once you take any detours thinking you will be safe, the harder it will be to get back on track and the more distracted the enemy can make you. You will eventually get back on track because of Who the Lord is but it will be a longer and more difficult process than it ever had to be.
If you want to see a fire, be sure it is the fire of God and not a counterfeit. When you know where the course is, stay on that path. If you’re not sure where you are supposed to go, pull over and wait until your “navigational system” recalculates.
Much love to all of us navigating in these times we are in. Yes, the road is bumpy and at times unpaved. We have the Lord on our side who can carry us when the terrain is rough and help us to travel on paths never used before.
Psalm 91:4 – He shall cover you with His feathers, And under His wings you shall take refuge; His truth shall be your shield and buckler.
