Order for Advancement: Part 9-Benjamin

The Order for Advancement
As shown through the 12 tribes of Israel: Part 9-Benjamin

We are now on the study of Benjamin as we continue our Order for Advancement series. Benjamin means “son of the right hand”. Immediately, when I read the meaning of the name I thought of how Jesus is described as being seated at the right hand of God.

Hebrews 8:1-2 – Now this is the main point of the things we are saying: We have such a High Priest, who is seated at the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in the heavens, 2 a Minister of the sanctuary and of the true tabernacle which the Lord erected, and not man.

Hebrews 10:12-14 – But this Man, after He had offered one sacrifice for sins forever, sat down at the right hand of God, 13 from that time waiting till His enemies are made His footstool. 14 For by one offering He has perfected forever those who are being sanctified.

Through our past studies, or if we know the stories of the twelve sons of Israel, we know that Rachel only bore two sons from her own womb. Her first was Joseph and her last was Benjamin. She had complications while giving birth to Benjamin and died after he was born.

Genesis 35:16-18 – Then they journeyed from Bethel. And when there was but a little distance to go to Ephrath, Rachel labored in childbirth, and she had hard labor. 17 Now it came to pass, when she was in hard labor, that the midwife said to her, “Do not fear; you will have this son also.” 18 And so it was, as her soul was departing (for she died), that she called his name Ben-Oni; but his father called him Benjamin.

Ben-Oni means “son of my sorrow”. Israel changed it to “son of the right hand”. Let us look at the blessing Jacob (Israel) spoke over Benjamin.

Genesis 49:27 – “Benjamin is a ravenous wolf; In the morning he shall devour the prey, And at night he shall divide the spoil.”

Moses’ final blessing was:

Genesis 33:12 – Of Benjamin he said: “The beloved of the Lord shall dwell in safety by Him, Who shelters him all the day long; And he shall dwell between His shoulders.”

The “son of sorrow” becomes the “son of the right hand” who is a ravenous wolf that devours prey in the morning, divides the spoils in the night, whom those that are beloved of the Lord dwell in for safety, and who shelters the beloved of the Lord all the day long. Does that remind us of anyone? Benjamin was also the last to be born of the sons of Israel. I pray, if we haven’t already, that we are seeing the depths of our God and how He places things in order. We must remember:

1 Corinthians 15:46 – However, the spiritual is not first, but the natural, and afterward the spiritual.

After we receive our double fruit/double portion (Ephraim) we come to forget our past troubles (Manasseh). Then we come into a place where we are made “sons” of the right hand (Benjamin).

Here are some verses that give us insight into what ‘the right hand’ actually means.

Exodus 15:6 – “Your right hand, O Lord, has become glorious in power; Your right hand, O Lord, has dashed the enemy in pieces.

Deuteronomy 33:2 – “The Lord came from Sinai, And dawned on them from Seir; He shone forth from Mount Paran, And He came with ten thousands of saints; From His right hand Came a fiery law for them.

Exodus 31:18 – And when He had made an end of speaking with him on Mount Sinai, He gave Moses two tablets of the Testimony, tablets of stone, written with the finger of God.

Psalm 16:11 – You will show me the path of life; In Your presence is fullness of joy; At Your right hand are pleasures forevermore.

Psalm 17:7 – Show Your marvelous lovingkindness by Your right hand, O You who save those who trust in You From those who rise up against them.

Psalm 20:6 – Now I know that the Lord saves His anointed; He will answer him from His holy heaven With the saving strength of His right hand.

Matthew 25:31-36 – “When the Son of Man comes in His glory, and all the holy angels with Him, then He will sit on the throne of His glory. 32 All the nations will be gathered before Him, and He will separate them one from another, as a shepherd divides his sheep from the goats. 33 And He will set the sheep on His right hand, but the goats on the left. 34 Then the King will say to those on His right hand, ‘Come, you blessed of My Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world: 35 for I was hungry and you gave Me food; I was thirsty and you gave Me drink; I was a stranger and you took Me in; 36 I was naked and you clothed Me; I was sick and you visited Me; I was in prison and you came to Me.’

“Son of the Right Hand”…

Matthew 5:9 – Blessed are the peacemakers, For they shall be called sons of God.

Where is THE Son of God?

Mark 16:19 – So then, after the Lord had spoken to them, He was received up into heaven, and sat down at the right hand of God.

Where will we be?

Revelation 3:20-21 – Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with Me. 21 To him who overcomes I will grant to sit with Me on My throne, as I also overcame and sat down with My Father on His throne.

I strongly believe we are in a time never seen on this earth before. As much as the darkness tries to invade, much brighter shall The Light shine. We are God’s vessels filled with the Holy Spirit that resurrected Christ from the dead, filled with the abiding presence of Jesus the Christ, and filled with the power of God Almighty. It is imperative we understand our place and our authority through the One Who is seated at the right hand of God and (from my studies) is the right hand of God. To understand our identity in Christ, we must come to know and understand Who He is.

Colossians 1:27 – To them God willed to make known what are the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles: which is Christ in you, the hope of glory.
