Order for Advancement: Rest 1-The East

The Order for Advancement
As shown through the 12 tribes of Israel: Rest 1-The East

There are three battalions within each of the four brigades. Each brigade was camped in a specific direction when they were not moving forward; when they were resting. After I go through each battalion (tribe) in one brigade, I will take a “rest” so we can gain knowledge into the direction each brigade was to camp in.

Judah is composed of the tribes of Judah, Issachar, and Zebulun. Just for review each tribe name means the following:

The brigade of Judah faced towards the east when they were camped.

Numbers 2:3,5,7- On the east side, toward the rising of the sun, those of the standard of the forces with Judah shall camp according to their armies; and Nahshon the son of Amminadab shall be the leader of the children of Judah.”…5 “Those who camp next to him shall be the tribe of Issachar, and Nethanel the son of Zuar shall be the leader of the children of Issachar.”…7 “Then comes the tribe of Zebulun, and Eliab the son of Helon shall be the leader of the children of Zebulun.”

We all know the sun rises in the east. We also know The Garden was planted in the east of Eden.

Genesis 2:8 – The Lord God planted a garden eastward in Eden, and there He put the man whom He had formed.

The way my brain works is when I see a certain word, sometimes, it triggers another word in my mind. In this scenario, when I see the word sun, sometimes I think of the word Son (as in Jesus Christ). However, not everyone’s brain works like mine so I need help from Holy Spirit to explain things He shows me. So, please, bear with me as I try to explain what He is telling me regarding the east.

God placed The Garden in the east of Eden and He placed man there to tend to The Garden. This was God’s original plan. After Adam and Eve disobeyed God, they were removed from The Garden and God took action to protect it.

Genesis 3:22-24 – Then the Lord God said, “Behold, the man has become like one of Us, to know good and evil. And now, lest he put out his hand and take also of the tree of life, and eat, and live forever”— 23 therefore the Lord God sent him out of the garden of Eden to till the ground from which he was taken. 24 So He drove out the man; and He placed cherubim at the east of the garden of Eden, and a flaming sword which turned every way, to guard the way to the tree of life.

The above passage suggests that the tree of life is located in the east of The Garden.

Revelation 2:7 – “He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. To him who overcomes I will give to eat from the tree of life, which is in the midst of the Paradise of God.”’

Let us break down the two above passages before going forward to see what else God says about the east. In Genesis 3:22 God says, “And now, lest he (meaning us-mankind) put out his hand and take also of the tree of life, and eat, and live forever…”.

John 3:16,36 – For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life….36 He who believes in the Son has everlasting life; and he who does not believe the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God abides on him.”

John 6:47-51 – Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me has everlasting life. 48 I am the bread of life. 49 Your fathers ate the manna in the wilderness, and are dead. 50 This is the bread which comes down from heaven, that one may eat of it and not die. 51 I am the living bread which came down from heaven. If anyone eats of this bread, he will live forever; and the bread that I shall give is My flesh, which I shall give for the life of the world.”

Psalm 34:8-10 – Oh, taste and see that the Lord is good; Blessed is the man who trusts in Him! 9 Oh, fear the Lord, you His saints! There is no want to those who fear Him. 10 The young lions lack and suffer hunger; But those who seek the Lord shall not lack any good thing.

Matthew 5:8 – Blessed are the pure in heart, For they shall see God.

John 14:6 – Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.

The Tree of life is planted in the eastern part of The Garden and is guarded by cherubim and a flaming sword which continually moves and turns so no one can get to the tree. We can have access to the tree if we put out our hand (asking for help from the Lord), take of the fruit of the tree (accepting Jesus into our hearts and lives and believing in Him), and eat of the tree (take into ourselves The Word-Jesus Christ-meaning being cleansed by The Word and growing spiritually on a continual basis).

Going back to the sun. The sun rises in the east. When the sun rises, darkness is removed correct?

John 1:4-5 – In Him was life, and the life was the light of men. 5 And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it.

Psalm 119:105 – Your word is a lamp to my feet And a light to my path.

2 Corinthians 4:6 – For God, who said, “Let there be light in the darkness,” has made this light shine in our hearts so we could know the glory of God that is seen in the face of Jesus Christ. 7 We now have this light shining in our hearts, but we ourselves are like fragile clay jars containing this great treasure. This makes it clear that our great power is from God, not from ourselves. [NLT]

As we grow in our knowledge of the Lord, darkness is dispelled. We become more like Jesus as we allow more of Him to be in full command of our lives. The more He shines within us, the more others come to the knowledge of Who He is because they begin to desire the Light (Jesus Himself).

The East is significant of something that I have only felt in a very small way; God’s Glory. I lack true understanding in this because of the current place I am in regarding my relationship with the Lord. I understand the concept of His Glory but that does not mean I have attained the full essence of it. We understand the concept of peace but that does not mean we live in it every moment of every day; the same with God’s Glory for me. However, we can try to understand it more by gaining more knowledge and allowing Holy Spirit to speak to us.

God’s Glory is associated with the east. In fact, His Glory comes from the east.

Ezekiel 43:1-5 – Afterward he brought me to the gate, the gate that faces toward the east. 2 And behold, the glory of the God of Israel came from the way of the east. His voice was like the sound of many waters; and the earth shone with His glory. 3 It was like the appearance of the vision which I saw—like the vision which I saw when I came to destroy the city. The visions were like the vision which I saw by the River Chebar; and I fell on my face. 4 And the glory of the Lord came into the temple by way of the gate which faces toward the east. 5 The Spirit lifted me up and brought me into the inner court; and behold, the glory of the Lord filled the temple.

Here are a few Bible passages that give us a glimpse into God’s Glory.

Exodus 29:43 – And there I will meet with the children of Israel, and the tabernacle shall be sanctified by My glory.

2 Chronicles 7:1-3 – When Solomon had finished praying, fire came down from heaven and consumed the burnt offering and the sacrifices; and the glory of the Lord filled the temple. 2 And the priests could not enter the house of the Lord, because the glory of the Lord had filled the Lord’s house. 3 When all the children of Israel saw how the fire came down, and the glory of the Lord on the temple, they bowed their faces to the ground on the pavement, and worshiped and praised the Lord, saying: “For He is good, For His mercy endures forever.”

Isaiah 60:1-2 – Arise, shine; For your light has come! And the glory of the Lord is risen upon you. 2 For behold, the darkness shall cover the earth, And deep darkness the people; But the Lord will arise over you, And His glory will be seen upon you.

Ezekiel 1:26-28 – And above the firmament over their heads was the likeness of a throne, in appearance like a sapphire stone; on the likeness of the throne was a likeness with the appearance of a man high above it. 27 Also from the appearance of His waist and upward I saw, as it were, the color of amber with the appearance of fire all around within it; and from the appearance of His waist and downward I saw, as it were, the appearance of fire with brightness all around. 28 Like the appearance of a rainbow in a cloud on a rainy day, so was the appearance of the brightness all around it. This was the appearance of the likeness of the glory of the Lord. So when I saw it, I fell on my face, and I heard a voice of One speaking.

Exodus 13:21-22 – And the Lord went before them by day in a pillar of cloud to lead the way, and by night in a pillar of fire to give them light, so as to go by day and night. 22 He did not take away the pillar of cloud by day or the pillar of fire by night from before the people.

Revelation 21:22-23 – But I saw no temple in it, for the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb are its temple. 23 The city had no need of the sun or of the moon to shine in it, for the glory of God illuminated it. The Lamb is its light.

Could it be that Jesus in His resurrected body is God’s Glory? I’m just thinking out loud and have no answer to that at this point.

Issachar=recompense (reward or wages)
Zebulun=habitation (live or dwell in)

God is a God of orchestrating every detail. There is no accident, coincidence, or mistake that these three tribes camped in the same unit and camped on the east side facing the rising sun (Son).

My hope in doing each of these “rest-stops” is that we gain even more understanding into the ways and character of God and His proper order for the advancement of His Kingdom here on earth. The Bible says “His ways are not our ways” but it does not say we cannot come to understand His ways. Selah!
